Announcing the first Artists Haven Residency at The Haven on beautiful Gabriola Island, BC

Thank you to all applicants, Our Artists in Residence have been chosen. Read the news release here.

Purpose

As a part of the The Haven's upcoming thirtieth anniversary celebration we are pleased to announce the first artist's residency as a way to recognize the important role of creativity in health and well-being. Throughout its history The Haven has offered programs that nurture and cultivate creativity. The Haven has also been a place where artists have found inspiration and a welcoming place to practice their craft. Now for the first time there will also be an opportunity for artists of all disciplines to apply for a residency program.

The Artist's Haven residency program provides accommodation for a two-week period in the beautiful setting of Gabriola Island. The Haven is delighted to be offering this opportunity in partnership with the Gabriola Arts Council.

Gabriola Arts Council LogoKathy Ramsey, Chair of the Gabriola Arts Council, writes: "For generations artists of all disciplines have been drawn to the creative spark ignited by the cultural, environmental and social canvas that is Gabriola Island. With one of the largest concentrations of artists per capita in Canada, the Gabriola Arts Council has been the lead agency for the arts on Gabriola for the past 16 years and is thrilled for the opportunity to partner with The Haven in bringing new voices to the arts and culture of our island home. Artists accepted into The Haven's program will find a warm, knowledgeable and enthusiastic reception from island artists. And discovering an island community's passion and love for the arts? Well, that's nothing short of inspirational. The Council is convinced that the dialogue that starts between the artist and the island during this residency will be one that lasts a lifetime."
