Before You Come can answer a lot of the questions that you may have after you register for a program at The Haven. Here we'll tell you about the normal daily schedule, what to bring, when is check-in and check-out, a few of the facilities and about the Bodyworkers. Thank you for registering for a program at The Haven. The Haven is a not for profit charitable organization, located on beautiful Gabriola Island, BC, Canada.
We hope this information will answer some of the questions you may have before you come.
What to Bring
Here is a list of things to bring with you to The Haven. None of this list is required, but may help you make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Check the BC Ferries web site (bcferries.com) for the latest schedule for ferries to Gabriola. We provide transport to The Haven for foot passengers on the 3:50 and 5:00pm ferries from Nanaimo on the first day of your program. Please contact Reception on the day of travel to book a ride.
Check in and check out
Your room will be ready by 4pm on the first day of your program. Dinner is served from 6-7pm. Check out time is noon. On the final day of the program, you are asked to remove any personal items from the bed, so that the housekeeping staff can go into the room at 9 am and make the bed.
Unless we have told you otherwise, your program will begin at 7.30pm on the first day, and finish on the last day at approximately noon.

Massage and Other Bodywork
Various forms of massage and other bodywork are available at The Haven. You can find out more about bodywork and book in advance of your arrival. Check our web site for details.

The lodge, gym, games room and TV room are open from 6am to midnight. The following equipment is in the gym: three treadmills; a step machine; an exercise bike; free weights and bench; exercise balls and floor mats; a small universal gym. The hot tub is open from 10.30am to midnight. The outdoor pool is seasonal and is usually available from June to September.
The Haven offers a range of comfortable rooms and suites for program participants. All of our rooms have private bathrooms. Our accommodation is designed to be shared by two or more people, though private rates are available. We make every effort to meet the needs of all our guests, but cannot guarantee specific rooms.
We have a very limited number of pet friendly rooms at an additional cost. Please speak first with the registrar if you are thinking of bringing your pet.
Eating at The Haven
During your program, we provide three meals a day, served buffet style in our ocean view dining room. Our objective is to support you during your program with a delicious and nutritious choice of food. At every meal we offer a meat dish and a lacto-vegetarian alternative, and there is a full salad bar available at lunch and dinner. Each room has a telephone with voicemail. Incoming callers will need your room number, which will be given to you when you check in. The special number for incoming calls is 250 247 9322. Local calls are free of charge. You will need a calling card to make a long distance call from your room phone.
The Haven has complimentary wireless internet access. We also have computers available in the Satir Room with internet connection and a printer.
BC legislation requires that there be no smoking within 3 metres of any window or door, Please only smoke in the designated areas. Smoking is not allowed in any rooms at The Haven. Smoking in any room may result in a deep cleaning fee, which could amount to several hundred dollars. Sand receptacles are provided around the property. Please use them, especially in summer when dry grasses present a fire hazard.
Please check your receipt and confirmation letter carefully and contact the Registrar if you have any questions. Please note that we do not accept personal cheques on arrival day.
If the program is cancelled, you will receive a full refund. If you cannot come to the program for whatever reason, please let us know as soon as possible. If you withdraw from the program for any reason before it starts, you have the option of transferring the deposit or any amount you have paid to another program. If you do not choose to do this, we will send you a $150 deposit refund voucher. This voucher can be redeemed up to a year from the date of issue and can be given to another person to use. Any payments made over and above the $150 deposit amount will be refunded using the original payment method.
For 25 years The Haven has offered programs for personal and professional growth and development. Programs at The Haven are educational, and should not be considered as substitutes for psychotherapy or medical therapy. If you are under the care of a physician or therapist, notify them of your participation in this program and get their approval. Your participation in the program is voluntary – you can choose not to participate in any part of the program and you are free to leave at any time.
