An introduction to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders

The American Psychiatric Association's standard of classification has been the source of much debate amongst medical practitioners, professional counsellors, social workers and therapists. This program provides an introduction to:

  • Psychiatric assessment
  • The DSM IV classification system
  • Diagnostic formulation
  • Treatment considerations, including an overview of psychotropic medications
  • Benefits and limitations for the client and the medical/psychiatric system 

 

Format: This program is for helping professionals, complementary therapists, students in The Haven Training Programs, and graduate level students in related disciplines. Previous knowledge of mental health assessment and the DSM IV is not necessary. The program comprises informal presentations and dialogue with the facilitator and other participants.

 

Approved for Continuing Education Credit hours by the Canadian Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (www.carpnational.org) and the Canadian Counselling Association (www.ccacc.ca)

Tuition: $385.00 (Accommodation and meals extra.)

 

Early Bird Tuition: $345.00 if you register and pay in full at least two weeks in advance.

 

Accommodation and Meals
The Haven offers a range of comfortable rooms and suites. All accommodation is designed to be shared by two or more people, though private rates are available. We make every effort to meet the needs of all our guests, but cannot guarantee specific rooms. Rates include three buffet-style meals per day.

 

There are three types of room: Basic, Forest view, and Ocean view.
