Ellery Littleton leads From Memory to Memoir

This program provides a creative approach to the writing of memoirs.  It offers opportunities to reclaim the most important moments of your life and transform them into intimate narratives.  The intensive journal-writing process employed during this meditative, inwardly-focused workshop stimulates both memory and creativity.

The memoirs participants write in this program represent the heart of their life stories.  There are many good reasons to learn to write them:

  • Writing for posterity – remembering so we don’t forget
  • Broadening self-awareness and exploring personal identity
  • Finding your own voice and writing style
  • Clarifying the purpose and meaning of your life
  • Discovering what is sacred in your life

Here are comments from participants in the October 2014 class:

What did you like best about the program?

“The warm and welcoming atmosphere; the structure which felt very safe.”
“The gentle way into myself.”

What was the most important thing you learned in the program?
“That it is fun to write!  How to take a memory, go deeper with it and make a story that is meaningful to yourself and others.”
“How the honestly written word is a clear mirror for me.”
“After years of holding on, I believe I’ve let go of a piece of the past that has been a burden for me for a long time.”

Ellery Littleton’s most recent book – HUMMINGBIRD TATTOO – a collection of erotic haiku – was nominated for an American Haiku Foundation “Touchstone Distinguished Book Award” for 2011.  It is available in the Haven gift shop.
