Denise Goldbeck, with a team of youth interns, leads a multi-age group of children through a creative process that culminates in a special show. Participants of the program leave with: a better sense of self by seeing where they fit into the developmental spectrum, a mind well exercised after having explored their creativity and learning to cooperate, and strong connections to other participants and leaders of the program.
Children learn:
In an optional, complementary session, caregivers learn about:
Format: The program combines a variety of group exercises, activities and discussions where children explore moral lessons, their own behaviours, and the behaviours of others in a non-judgmental setting. Use is made of theatre, music, dance, drama, and stage creation to facilitate group cooperation and learning. Older children support younger children in dances, songs, and dramatic scenes. Youth Interns assist with the program and act as role models for younger participants. Children stay at The Haven with a parent or guardian.
Note: Parents or guardians are expected to attend the opening session on the first evening of the program, and the performance on the last evening (the program ends at noon the following day). Parents or guardians are expected to be with their children outside of session times. Older children have evening sessions; most evenings the younger children are offered lawn games, facilitated by the Youth Interns. Children will stay at The Haven with a parent or guardian. As the 5th year in a row, this program is, and continues to be transformational for my family. I love the way I can communicate and share with my kids, and our home is now the kinds of caring and respectful place that I'd always dreamed it could be. Both boys have developed confidence and compassion & our visit to The Haven is a highlight of each year. Your tuition may be tax deductible The Haven is a certified educational institute and is registered with the BC Private Career Training Institutions Agency.
