life transition through the lens of nature

Register Now for the Phase Programs

One of the ways human beings navigate major transitions in life is through the power of story.   The stories we tell about ourselves can free us to move forward or keep us mired in guilt and regret.   So much depends on the language we use, and the influence that language has over what we think is possible.

Join us for a novel way of re-examining the stories of transition in your life.    Learn how the lens of nature can help you generate a narrative about your own change process that is broader, kinder, and more self-compassionate.  Let metaphors from the natural world remind you of what you already know: that disintegration and release of identity is critical for all ecologies of renewal; that periods of confusion and darkness are a necessary part of the process; and that everything we experience during times of transition in life is deeply and essentially, 'natural'. Music that reflects the beauty of nature and carries healing qualities will accompany the retreat experience as we engage with our stories.

This program will appeal to those who enjoy:

  •  Guided group hiking along beaches and forested trails
  •  Readings from nature-inspired poets such as Mary Oliver and David Whyte
  • Meditative music
  •  Forest and plant biology
  •  Reflection through writing and shared discussion
  •  Self-discovery in the outdoors

Indoor, circle-based sessions will follow the group process taught at Peerspirit.  These will be complemented by several 1-2 hr. guided group forest hikes.   Our goal will be to study outer landscapes in order to find out what new stories they can inspire by way of metaphor.  Since important discussions and insights will occur en route, comfort on walking trails and a good basic level of fitness will be required. On Saturday evening, Cathy will be offering a meditative music concert based on the songs/stories of her own transitions in life.

Adrian will be assisted by Cathy Hardy. To learn more about Cathy visit her website.
